I had planned to discuss ways for parents to form positive relationships with schools, but some comments made me realize we first need to discuss another question: are public schools worse than they were during my teaching years and why? It seems there is a fairly widespread sentiment that schools have more problems than we had and far more demands. I've even been told there is no room today for 'creativity' in the classroom and that schools are less about children than ever? What do you think? Without naming teachers, schools, administrators, parents etc., what do you see as the problems and solutions? I appreciate your ideas and insights. I'll share my thoughts soon.
