The Key to Survival

I never wasted class time so when I told a joke, even an awful one, it had to have a reason. In the joke the man lost in the desert doesn't realize the key to his survival is the tie so he rejects it when it is generously offered to him. So what is the "tie" that so many kids reject even when we try to offer it to them for free? What is the key to survival in a technologically advanced society today? The answer is education. Just like the man lost in the desert, our children don't understand they must get the best education possible to survive today. But why don't they understand this? For the same reason the lost man doesn't understand he should be grateful for the tie. We, parents, teachers, everyone, should do whatever it takes to help our children understand how important a good education is. They really do need the "tie", education, to have a good life.

If we can get every child to go for the "tie", we may have a first step in steering them away from the waste of their own education by such behaviors as bullying. So keep telling them my awful joke and to "Aim high. Aim for the tie." And please feel free to share this 'awfully meaningful' joke with anyone who can help children. That is my goal
